Occulus Rift S Review: Key points No-one should miss out!!

Ever since the VR revolution started, the world is in a roll. And Facebook’s Oculus is one of the key players in the virtual world. The Oculus Rift isn’t like anything you’ve experienced; it is magic in the air. I would rather call it a teleportation device rather than a VR device because it literally teleports you to wherever you want to go; be it a movie or the other hemisphere of the globe or a game, you can get there.

Honestly, it is very hard to tell anyone what it’s like to use the Oculus Rift. The Oculus Rift can trick your brain, it has the power to create motion sickness in you and also fear heights. In some cases, you would literally lean on VR surfaces for balance. Some games might place you on top of mountains, oh boy it is exhilarating. We can all accept the fact that not everything is perfectly real but it can truly trick your brain and that there is pure entertainment for you.

The tech guys have really done it this time. Of course like any other product, there are pros and cons but her pros surely outweigh the cons but it depends on you to make the decision to buy the right device for you. so I would like to spill out all you need to know about Oculus.

“Oculus” cool name isn’t it?

The ultra-low-latency tracking of the Oculus Rift offers you unparalleled immersion.

·Hmm, so what does that mean?

Let’s break it up into pieces.

Low- Latency tracking:

Low latency Tracking describes “Tracking’ that is optimized to process a very high volume of information with the least delay (delay meaning latency). These are designed to support processes that require real-time computations to continuously changing data.

Low latency is desirable in gaming as it helps you to enjoy a more realistic gaming experience.

Unparalleled Immersion:

Virtual Reality technology takes you to another level of immersion that is hard to conquer. This is why you would not quit VR

  1. A 360-degree field of vision
  2. A very good perception of depth of the surroundings.
  3. Stimulate effects that are otherwise hard to feel; eg. Throwing an angry bird across the hill.

Oculus Touch controllers make you Virtually Real, enabling you to live in the virtual world.

You can’t just sit idle in a virtual world, you need to move, walk, kick, jump, hit, smash, throw and for that you need tools. The boys at Oculus pack you up with the following for an amazing virtual experience.

a. The Oculus Rift S headset: A very powerful Virtual gaming system powered by a Personal Computer.

b. Two Touch Controllers: Right and left touch controllers to enable both of your hands in the virtual world. It really brings your hand presence to combat, artwork and many more.

c. Headset cables: Oculus has a 5m long cable to connect your gaming PC thus enabling a wide range of motion for you.

d. AA batteries: Keeping it very simple to power both of your touch controllers with Alkaline Batteries.

e. Video output: A min output port to connect to your PC.

Recommendations: You need to have a minimum of the following to use the Oculus Rift.

NVIDIA GTX 1050Ti/AMD Radeon RX 470 or greater Graphics Card Required and Memory = 8 GB+ RAM.

Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 SP1 64 bit or newer Operating System required Windows PC and internet connection are also required.

  • The Rift S is an upgrade over the original Rift, the upgrade isn’t a huge one but it surely takes Oculus’ desktop VR to the next level.
  • It’s amazing low-latency built-in tracking works well enough for its price and the displays are more vivid.
  • The Oculus Rift S is better than its predecessor as it has a sharper screen and a beautiful set of cameras that don’t require external sensors.
  • A lot of free games, demos, and high-quality paid apps are available, hence there is no shortage of software available.
  • Simplicity is the word to describe the chores to be done to set up our Oculus. It is so simple.

Cons and their solutions:

 1. Make sure you have ample space cleared at your home to have to use Oculus Rift S.

There is a 5m long cable to your headset, so I would suggest you keep a 5m radius from your computer. This is a requirement for all VR headsets but some people realize the space issue only after they buy one, I wanted to make sure you note this beforehand, my curious buddy.

 2. Connect both the monitor and the headset to the same graphics card

Please do that to avoid loss in performance, I could find some people who experienced performance issues.

Some games just don’t function effectively unless the headset and monitor are plugged into the same video card, also it is not possible to know which games require this setup and which do not, so I would advise you to stay on the safe side by looking into this before buying an Oculus Rift.

The simple fix is to get a Display Port to HDMI wire and use that to connect both things to the same monitor.

 3. If you are an Xbox type guy,

I am sorry to say that You will not get an Xbox controller and wireless adapter, so please make sure you get them separately if you plan to game with an Xbox controller.

4. The controllers use AA batteries.

Some users experienced the death of their batteries in about 3 weeks of regular use so if you are a little impatient is would like to suggest you use rechargeable batteries.

5. If you have visual difficulty without your glasses,

then I am sorry to announce that it is very difficult to enjoy the Oculus as it is not adaptable to a person with glasses.

Questions you might have:

If any of the parts malfunction would I get a replacement or service since it is outside India?

If your warranty is valid, Oculus shall replace the part or the product.

Can the Oculus Rift portable with the Macbook pro?

Sorry Curious buddy, The Rift is not portable with Macbook Pro.

The majority of reviews show it is worth to buy the Oculus Rift to experience true VR.

Please comment your thoughts below.Have a nice time in the virtual world my curious buddy 🙂
